MOTOMAN robots and EGS palletising systems automate Fintes machine tool in Hittisau

Fintes GmbH from Hittisau/Vorarlberg was looking for a reliable, flexible and durable system for automatically feeding a machining centre with the best possible price-performance ratio. At the same time, the system should be as simple to operate as possible. Autonomy was also to be as great as possible for reasons of economic efficiency. This was not the first robotic automation system that EGS Automation has supplied to Fintes; there are already two systems in operation at the Hittisau plant, the first since 2014.

The automation system was developed and realised as a turnkey system by EGS Automation GmbH from Donaueschingen in the Schwarzwald-Baar district. The company has been active in the field of industrial automation technology since 1996 and has been using industrial robots since 1999. In 2014, Fintes had a system from EGS installed for the first time to automate an assembly process involving a servo press. An automatic feeder for a machining centre followed in 2019. The SUMO Multiplex from EGS, a palletising system from the standard EGS series that operates according to the paternoster principle, was also chosen for the third system. A Motoman robot from Yaskawa handles the workpieces in all three systems.

SUMO palletising system (standardised, universal, minimum space requirement, optimised)

The SUMO Multiplex is a 12-fold palletising system designed for 600 x 400 mm pallets. The EGS basic pallets are used, which are individually adapted to the workpieces by means of inlays. Individual pallets of finished parts can be removed or new pallets of unfinished parts inserted at any time - this does not affect the automation process.
